Elma Technology was founded in 1937 by a German entrepreneur in De Bilt. Originally, the company focused on the repair and overhaul of Electrical Machines; the company owes its name to this. Over time, the company started to focus on the sales of electrical motors. Late seventies Elma moved to its current location in Soesterberg. In the early eighties the company was taken over by the entrepreneur Henk Fietjé. During this period, the company focused more and more on the sales of drives and control technology. In addition to these activities also an engineering and panel building department were build up.
In 2002 the company got a new management team. In the following years a number of companies were acquired, among them Hazendonk in Bunnik and Vortex in Soest. Meanwhile Elma became a dynamic and innovative company with over 80 employees in the Netherlands and 30 employees at Elro in Romania.
