Elma is active in many different markets and a large diversity of projects and services have been realized: from a small starter cabinet for an electric motor to a complex drive- and control system for an offshore application, from engineering support to maintenance and after sales services.
On this page you will find just a small selection of the many projects that have been realized by Elma.

In the early 90s Elma has, in association with Royal Hollestelle, developed a fully automated container crane for the relocation industry.
Over the years the concept has been fully developed using the latest technologies. In addition to the relocation industry the concept is developed in such a way, it can also be used in other applications, like coil handling cranes. Apart from the automation software Elma also engineered and produced the entire drive- and control system for the crane itself. Worldwide, a couple of dozens such cranes have been supplied, even in Australia.

For the Romanian Constanta, on the Black Sea, based transshipment company Comvex, Elma has refurbished both the electrical drive and control system for 2 pcs of bulk unloaders. The entire project was executed turnkey.
The refurbishment job comprised both a DC and partly an AC system: both the hoist and the trolley are equipped with DC motors. The boom hoist and crane travelling movement are equipped with AC motors.
In addition to the electrical systems Elma also supplied and installed new cabins and control stations.

Power ratings of the drive system

  • Main hoist: 2 x 720 kW DC
  • Gantry travelling: 2 x 150 kW DC
  • Boom hoist: 1 x 132 kW AC
  • Crane travelling: 8 x 21 kW AC

Apart from the installation works on site Elma also has trained the crane drivers and the technical department of the company.

For the Romanian Constanta, on the Black Sea, based transshipment company Romned Elma has refurbished both the electrical drive and control system for 6 pcs of general purpose cranes. The entire project was executed turnkey.
The refurbishment job comprised an AC system.
In addition to the electrical systems Elma also supplied and installed new cabins, control stations, motors and cable reels.

Power ratings of the drive system

  • Main hoist: 2 x 110 kW AC
  • Slewing: 2 x 37 kW AC
  • Luffing: 1 x 90 kW AC
  • Crane travelling: 4 x 15 kW AC

Apart from the installation works on site Elma also has trained the crane drivers and the technical department of the company.

For the Dutch crane manufacturer, Figee, Elma has engineered the electrical drive and control system for a new built container crane (Ship To Shore, STS). The drive and control system is installed in an E-container.
In addition to the electrical drive- and control system Elma also supplied and installed a new cabin, control station, motors, cabling and auxiliary equipment like lighting and limit switches.

Power ratings of the drive system

  • Main hoist: 2 x 150 kW AC
  • Gantry travelling: 4 x 15 kW AC
  • Crane travelling: 6 x 15 kW AC

Apart from the installation works on site Elma also has trained the crane drivers and the technical department of the end-user.

For the US government Elma BV has refurbished 2 pcs old Nelcon container cranes (STS) in the port of city, Umm Quasar in Iraq.
During the Iraq war the cranes have been completely stripped of all valuables (copper). For importing goods for the reconstruction of Iraq the cranes needed to be made operational again. The old DC systems have been completely replaced by a new modern DC system. Not only the entire electrical drive and control system was replaced, but also the cabins, control stations, medium voltage transformers, cable reels and the lighting.

Power ratings of the drive system

  • Main hoist: 2 x 180 kW DC
  • Gantry travelling: 2 x 30 kW DC
  • Boom hoist: 1 x 80 kW DC
  • Crane travelling: 8 x 18 kW DC

This project was implemented turnkey. Besides the installation work Elma has also instructed the technical department of the company.
